Customized Tiles and Murals for Home Decoration ....an Idea Whose Time Has Arrived
By David Hall.

Thinking of renovating? Think tile! Think full colour intricate patterns – where you can be the designer of your renovation project. It is now possible, practical, and economical to customize your tiles using vivid colours and detailed patterns through sublimation.

Sublimation is a method of applying a digital image to cloth, metals, plastics, and ceramics using three primary ingredients: sublimation ink, heat, and pressure. Sublimation ink is unique in its ability to convert from a solid to a gas without going through a liquid form – just like dry ice. The conversion is initiated by heat and controlled with pressure. And what does that mean? It means beautiful colours and high definition images on just about anything, including ceramic tiles.

In a sense, sublimation is a revolutionary approach to home and office decoration. You decide which designs or art work will be printed on accent tiles for the bathroom or kitchen or even for a complete mural for a counter top or for your office or basement wall. If you always loved Monet’s Water Lilies, there’s nothing to stop you from having fine art as a tiled mural in your favourite room.

Generally speaking, any image (copyright not withstanding) can be transferred to any sized tiles including gloss (an excellent decorative finish but easy to scratch) or matte (extra-tough, scratch resistant, and can be used for counter tops). There are several sources where you can find the perfect image including a Tile Sublimation professional or check out the following Web sites that sell digital images.

When you think tile, free your imagination – be different, be e-x-o-t-i-c. It’s time to unleash your creativity.
